The records of the CMDNJ-Office of Planning and Development span the years 1960-1979, with the bulk of the material dating from 1970-1977. The strengths of the collection are in the area of construction of the Piscataway and Newark campuses, development of community programs (statewide), grants and other fund raising activities, and the correspondence of the various directors and vice presidents of the Office. The subseries in this collection were developed by grouping documents together according to their original container titles. The arrangement of the folders within each subseries is alphabetical. Occasionally the original folder titles were altered slightly to clarify their meaning and/or arrangement. In particular, the folders dealing with Rutgers Medical School (RMS), Martland Hospital Unit (MHU) and Newark Teaching Hospital (NTH), which was actually Newark City Hospital, had their titles altered, where necessary, to facilitate the grouping of folders into more orderly and accessible units.
